Minister Dr G Parameshwara said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the
proposed Metro Rail line to Tumakuru from the Madavara stop in Bengaluru has
been received by Vidhana Soudha and would be placed before the Cabinet for
consideration.
Speaking
to reporters after receiving the DPR in the presence of Chief Secretary
Shalini Rajneesh, Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Girinath
and BMRCL officials, Parameshwara said that a feasibility report was conducted
at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore by a Hyderabad-based company for the proposed
project.
“They
strongly stated in the report that it could be done," the Tumakuru
district in-charge Minister.
The Minister said discussions were subsequently held on preparing the DPR, and a
tender was floated through the metro authorities.
The
government is preparing to implement the project under the Public-Private
Partnership (PPP) model, with an estimated cost of around Rs 20,000 crore,
Parameshwara said.
He added
that the DPR contains detailed aspects, including the number and location of
stations and the alignment along the National Highway corridor.
"It will be placed before the Cabinet, after which Expressions of Interest will be invited and tenders will be floated. The process will then begin. We do not yet know who will qualify or who will apply," he said.
